The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Trailer - Now With Video
Here's the embed I promised. I love this trailer. Some of the scenes from this drip of magic! And the last 10 second - chills! Enough words, just watch (if you haven't watched it 20 times already like I have):
LOTR Lego Set Analysis Part III - Uruk-hai Army
Honestly, set 9471 Uruk-hai Army is pretty underwhelming. It's basically a castle wall, 2 Rohirrim soldiers (one on a horse) and a bunch of Uruk-hai. One neat this is the special shield sculpt for the Uruk-hai, but that only aggravates me further when it comes to the weapons. I know these are VERY early mock-ups but the lack of a special weapon for Frodo (STING!) or the rest of the Fellowship will dissapoint. We can make a special shield, but not a special sword, for one of the most beloved franchises of all time!?! Come on, Lego!!!! It's not like I'm asking you to invent plastic that will glow blue when Orks are near!!!
The one item that interests me is the horse. To be frank, I'm not a fan of Lego horses. It's not that I hate horses, I just have TOO MANY!!! Seriously I've got these little guys everywhere. A special sculpt would be AWESOME and add variety to any castle or old west theme. Now, I'm curious if what I'm seeing is actually a new sculpt, or just a computer rendered picture of a Lego horse. In Lego promotional images the minifigs are computer rendered, which means their little legs bend and put them in cool little poses. I'm hoping this isn't just a cool pose to sell the toy, but a Lego horse that is actually reared up for battle!!!

LOTR Lego Set Analysis Part II - Shelob Attacks
Now let's move on to 9470 Shelob Attacks!!! This set is basically a model of Shelob, Frodo and Sam minifigs, and Gollum in a little cave. I'm not too impressed with Shelob, she reminds me of the Aragog model in the Harry Potter sets. How many ways can you make a giant Lego spider, really? Sam holds the Light of Eärendil, which in Lego world is just a Lego gem.
My favorite reveal in this set is a special sculpt for Lego Gollum! One of my biggest worries was that he'd end up a minifigure like Lego Dobby. Fortunately, it looks like (from the fuzzy little pictures) that he will have a special body sculpt! This is the neatest thing I've seen in the Shelob Attacks set, and I can't WAIT to see a full, detailed, high quality reveal!

Lego Set Pictures Revealed!
And . . I'm not going to post them here. I'm pretty sure some Lego lawyers are typing up some cease and desist letters in a hurry today. What I am going to do, however, is talk about some of the coolest bits I've seen in each set!!! I like to search for little details, to see what new pieces are going to be included or used in a unique way. One thing I noticed on all sets that kinda bugs me is a lack of original swords like Sting. I mean, this is one of the most famous swords in pop culture and we can't get a tiny Lego mold of it? I may have to dig deeper on this one. Anyway, here is my set analysis, part I.
Lets start with everyone's favorite Wizard (to hell with Harry Potter), Gandalf the Grey!!! His set is 9469 Gandalf Arrives, and it includes the man himself, plus Frodo and his little wagon. It seems like a bunch of pretty standard lego pieces. I can't tell if they're using the usual Lego beard on Gandalf yet, but I hope it's something special. I'm not a huge fan of the curly-tipped Wizard beard we've been using for decades. The detail I loved the most, though, was what appears to be one of those new Ninjago snakes for the big dragon firework sticking out of his cart. That would be the one Merry and Pippin launched through the tent roof during Fellowship of the Ring. Here's a sneak peek:

Check out this great new picture of Bilbo with the dwarves. Every time one little piece of information about The Hobbit is release my inner-geek have a little meltdown! Lego Lord of the Rings is Coming!
Lego has officially announced that sets based on Lord or the Rings and the upcoming Hobbit movies (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again) will be release Summer 2012!
